Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 9 pieces
Ingredients
10 oz large marshmallows (or mini marshmallows)
8 cups Rice Krispies cereal
¼ cup butter
½ cup marshmallow fluff
5–8 drops green food coloring
1 cup dark chocolate chips
1 tbsp vegetable oil
18 large candy eyes
9 small Tootsie Rolls
½ cup black or brown icing
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and marshmallow fluff, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
- Stir in 5–8 drops of green food coloring until evenly blended.
- In a large bowl, quickly mix the marshmallow mixture with Rice Krispies cereal until fully coated. The mixture will be thick, so work quickly before it sets.
- Press the mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Refrigerate for 15 minutes or until firm.
- Cut into 3×4-inch rectangles to form Frankenstein faces.
- Melt chocolate chips with vegetable oil in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Dip the top inch of each Rice Krispie treat into the melted chocolate to create hair. Let set.
- Use icing to attach candy eyes to the front of each treat. Draw a mouth and scars with the same icing.
- Cut Tootsie Rolls in half and use icing to stick them to the sides of each Frankenstein head. Allow icing to set before serving.
Pro Tips
Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant green shade.
Work quickly when mixing cereal with marshmallows; greased or buttered hands make it easier to press into the pan.
For firmer treats, refrigerate longer, but serve at room temperature for the best texture.
