A comforting classic, Swedish meatballs are savory morsels served in a creamy gravy, perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, milk, egg, salt, black pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix until well incorporated. Form into small meatballs.
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides.
- Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, whisk in the flour and cook for about one minute. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in sour cream and return the meatballs to the skillet. Let it simmer for around 10 minutes.
- Serve warm, generously draped in the creamy gravy.
Notes
Serve over creamy mashed potatoes or with egg noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lingonberry sauce for an authentic touch.
