Ingredients
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes until slightly golden.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheese, continuing to stir until melted and smooth.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is evenly coated.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish. Top with grated Parmesan and breadcrumbs for an extra crunch.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a creamy finish, use freshly grated cheese instead of pre-shredded. You can add spices or mix-ins for additional flavors.
