Ingredients

  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for brushing)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (for icing)


Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Gradually add flour, mixing to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  6. Gently roll the dough into a log and slice into 1-inch thick rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again for about an hour.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for icing. Drizzle over rolls while warm.
