Description

A warm, buttery shortcake topped with sweet, macerated strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipped cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine the sliced strawberries and sugar in a bowl. Set aside to macerate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased skillet, smoothing the top to ensure even baking.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Serve the shortcake topped with the macerated strawberries and a generous amount of whipped cream.

Notes

Consider serving warm and adding fresh mint for garnish.
