Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whipped cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Combine the sliced strawberries and sugar in a bowl. Set aside to macerate for about 10 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
- Pour the batter into a greased skillet, smoothing the top to ensure even baking.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Serve the shortcake topped with the macerated strawberries and a generous amount of whipped cream.
