Description
Creamy and cheesy scalloped potatoes, layered to perfection and baked until golden brown.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the heavy cream, salt, pepper, and thyme, stirring to combine. Heat until warmed through.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cream mixture and half of the shredded cheese.
- Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For variation, try mixing in Gruyère cheese or adding steamed vegetables between the layers.
