Description

Creamy and cheesy scalloped potatoes, layered to perfection and baked until golden brown.


Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the heavy cream, salt, pepper, and thyme, stirring to combine. Heat until warmed through.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cream mixture and half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For variation, try mixing in Gruyère cheese or adding steamed vegetables between the layers.
