Ingredients
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- Coarse sea salt for topping
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Add flour and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for roughly an hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll.
- Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot. Boil each roll for 30 seconds, then place on a greased baking sheet.
- Brush each roll with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store pretzel rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
