Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 can sliced pineapple (in syrup)
- Maraschino cherries
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Melt butter: In a small saucepan, melt the butter, then pour it into the cake pan.
- Add brown sugar: Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the melted butter to create a caramel base.
- Arrange the fruit: Place pineapple slices over the brown sugar, and put a maraschino cherry in the center of each slice for a pop of color.
- Mix the batter: In a bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, baking powder, and salt. Stir until smooth.
- Pour the batter: Carefully pour the batter over the pineapple mixture, spreading it evenly.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and invert: Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes before inverting it onto a serving plate to reveal the gorgeous topping.
