Ingredients
- 1 cup of mushrooms, chopped (cremini or button mushrooms work best)
- 1/4 cup of onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons of butter or olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option)
- 1 cup of vegetable broth or beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for added flavor
Instructions
- Heat the butter or olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.
- Stir in the chopped mushrooms and cook until they’re browned and softened.
- Sprinkle in the flour, stirring continuously for about a minute to form a roux.
- Gradually pour in the broth while stirring constantly until the mixture thickens to your liking.
- Season with salt, pepper, and any optional herbs.
