Description
A juicy turkey burger with sautéed jalapeños, sweet red onion, and melted Pepper Jack cheese, perfect for summer cookouts or quick weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- Olive oil, for the pan and grilling
- 1 cup finely chopped red onion
- ½ cup finely chopped jalapeño peppers (seeds removed)
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 cup grated Pepper Jack cheese
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- A few turns of freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Sauté onion, peppers, and garlic. Coat a medium-large sauté pan with olive oil and place over medium heat. Add the red onion, jalapeños, and garlic. Sauté until the onions are soft, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate or bowl and let cool.
- Combine all of the ingredients. Once cooled, add the onion mixture to a large mixing bowl with the ground turkey, grated Pepper Jack, salt, cumin, and black pepper. Mix gently until evenly distributed.
- Grill. Preheat a BBQ grill or stovetop grill pan. Shape the mixture into 4 even patties. Drizzle the patties with a little olive oil.
- Cook the burgers. Add the patties to the hot grill. Grill until the bottoms are nicely marked, about 4 minutes. Flip, reduce heat to medium-low, and continue grilling until cooked through, about 6 minutes more.
- Rest and serve. Place cooked burgers on a plate and cover with foil for a few minutes while you prep buns and toppings. Serve with buns, tomatoes, and your favorite add-ons.
Notes
Ensure the sautéed mixture cools before mixing with turkey to prevent sticking. Don’t overmix to keep the burgers tender.
