Description
A quick and flavorful taco meat recipe perfect for weeknight dinners or taco bars.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion, chopped (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Warm the skillet. Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.
- Sauté (optional). Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring, until the onion looks translucent and softened.
- Brown the beef. Add the ground beef. Cook 6–8 minutes, breaking it into small crumbles, until no pink remains.
- Drain excess fat (if necessary). If there’s a lot of grease pooling, carefully spoon it off or drain it—leave just a little for flavor.
- Season and simmer. Sprinkle in the taco seasoning, then pour in the water. Stir well, scraping the bottom of the pan to lift any browned bits.
- Thicken. Simmer 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly and looks glossy rather than watery.
- Serve. Spoon into taco shells and add your favorite toppings.
Notes
Optional ingredients like onion and garlic can enhance flavor. Adjust thickness of the mixture by adding water if too thick.
