Description

A delightful homemade version of the classic strawberry Pop Tarts, perfect for breakfast or as a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 1 cup strawberries, diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for icing, optional)
  • Milk (for icing, optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually stir in the ice water until a dough starts to form. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  3. Mix diced strawberries with sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice in another bowl. Cook over medium heat until thickened, then allow it to cool.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface. Cut into rectangles that will form the top and bottom of the Pop Tarts.
  5. Spoon filling onto half of the rectangles, then fold over and seal the edges with a fork.
  6. Place the Pop Tarts on a baking sheet. Brush the top with the egg wash and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Allow them to cool, then drizzle with a mixture of powdered sugar and milk if you’d like.

Notes

For extra flavor, add spices like cinnamon to the dough or try different fruits for the filling.
