Description
A delightful homemade version of the classic strawberry Pop Tarts, perfect for breakfast or as a sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 cup strawberries, diced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for icing, optional)
- Milk (for icing, optional)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually stir in the ice water until a dough starts to form. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Mix diced strawberries with sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice in another bowl. Cook over medium heat until thickened, then allow it to cool.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface. Cut into rectangles that will form the top and bottom of the Pop Tarts.
- Spoon filling onto half of the rectangles, then fold over and seal the edges with a fork.
- Place the Pop Tarts on a baking sheet. Brush the top with the egg wash and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow them to cool, then drizzle with a mixture of powdered sugar and milk if you’d like.
Notes
For extra flavor, add spices like cinnamon to the dough or try different fruits for the filling.
