Description

A delightful homemade version of pop tarts with flaky pie crust and customizable fillings. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice water
  • Your choice of filling (jam, Nutella, peanut butter, etc.)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional toppings: icing, sprinkles, cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pie Crust: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add cold, cubed butter and mix until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until the dough holds together.
  2. Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into rectangles (about 3×4 inches).
  4. Fill and Seal: Place one rectangle on a prepared baking sheet. Add about a tablespoon of your chosen filling in the center. Top with another dough rectangle, sealing the edges by pressing with a fork.
  5. Preheat and Brush: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Beat the egg and brush it over the pop tarts’ tops for a beautiful, golden finish.
  6. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool before enjoying.

Notes

To maintain freshness, store pop tarts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Unbaked pop tarts can be frozen and later baked.
