Description

These Halloween sugar cookie bars are soft, chewy, and topped with colorful frosting and sprinkles. A simple alternative to cut-out cookies, perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup salted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (or milk/half & half)
  • Orange food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter & sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg & vanilla and mix until smooth.
  4. Incorporate flour & baking powder until a soft dough forms.
  5. Press into pan evenly and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 14–16 minutes, until edges are golden. Let cool completely.
  7. Make the frosting: Beat butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream until fluffy. Add orange food coloring.
  8. Frost & decorate cooled bars with orange frosting and Halloween sprinkles.
  9. Cut into squares and serve fresh.

Notes

Use softened butter for the best creaming texture. Double the frosting recipe if you love thick, bakery-style bars. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze for up to 3 months.
