Description
These Halloween sugar cookie bars are soft, chewy, and topped with colorful frosting and sprinkles. A simple alternative to cut-out cookies, perfect for Halloween parties.
Ingredients
- 1 cup salted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ cup salted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2 tbsp heavy cream (or milk/half & half)
- Orange food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Cream butter & sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add egg & vanilla and mix until smooth.
- Incorporate flour & baking powder until a soft dough forms.
- Press into pan evenly and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 14–16 minutes, until edges are golden. Let cool completely.
- Make the frosting: Beat butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream until fluffy. Add orange food coloring.
- Frost & decorate cooled bars with orange frosting and Halloween sprinkles.
- Cut into squares and serve fresh.
Notes
Use softened butter for the best creaming texture. Double the frosting recipe if you love thick, bakery-style bars. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze for up to 3 months.
