Description
A tender and flavorful meatloaf topped with a sweet-tangy glaze that caramelizes beautifully in the oven.
Ingredients
- 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 large egg
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup dried bread crumbs (plain or Italian seasoned)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ⅓ cup ketchup (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons prepared mustard (yellow or Dijon) (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, milk, bread crumbs, and egg. Season with salt and pepper and mix until just combined.
- Press the meat mixture evenly into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- In a small bowl, stir together the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard until smooth and spread it over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for about 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is no longer pink in the center (an internal temperature of at least 160°F).
- Let the meatloaf rest in the pan for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serve hot.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider sautéing onions before mixing. Use crushed crackers in place of breadcrumbs if desired.
