Description
A simple yet flavorful Chicken Teriyaki recipe that combines sweet and savory flavors, perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.
Ingredients
- ¾ lb chicken thigh (or chicken breast)
- 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 Tablespoon toasted white sesame seeds
- ⅓ cup low sodium soy sauce
- ⅓ cup mirin
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic or ginger (optional)
Instructions
- Prep Chicken: Flatten the chicken to about ¾ inch thick for even cooking. Place it in a zipper bag or large bowl.
- Marinade: In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and any garlic or ginger. Reserve half for later. Pour the remaining marinade over the chicken, ensuring it’s well coated. Marinate for at least 15 minutes or up to overnight in the fridge.
- Cook Chicken: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Cook the chicken for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked.
- Serve: Once done, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top and slice the chicken for serving.
Notes
Marinate the chicken overnight for enhanced flavors. A high cooking temperature helps caramelize the sugars for a great glaze.
