These festive cauldron cookie cups combine rich chocolate cookie dough with colorful buttercream potions and spooky decorations, perfect for Halloween parties and bake sales.
Ingredients
- 1 (15.25 oz) box Devil’s Food cake mix
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup canola or vegetable oil
- Black food coloring (optional)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1–3 tablespoons milk
- Green food coloring
- Round green sprinkles
- Halloween sprinkles (skulls, bones, etc.)
- Candy eyeballs
- Pretzel sticks
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease three 12-count mini muffin pans.
- In a large bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, oil, and food coloring until combined.
- Scoop ½ tablespoon of dough into each muffin cup. Flatten gently with fingers.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
- Immediately press an indentation in the center of each warm cookie with the back of a tablespoon. Cool completely before removing.
- Beat softened butter until creamy.
- Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt, mixing until smooth.
- Add milk gradually until the frosting is pipeable.
- Mix in green food coloring until desired shade is reached.
- Pipe green frosting into cooled cookie cups to resemble bubbling potion.
- Top with sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and Halloween decorations.
- Insert half a pretzel stick into each cookie cup as a stirring stick.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
Notes
Indent while warm for the best shape and cool completely before decorating to prevent frosting from melting. Get creative with different frosting colors for varied ‘potions.’
