Description

A heartwarming classic dish featuring tender chicken in a rich broth, paired with fluffy dumplings that melt in your mouth.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (or 3-4 cups cooked shredded chicken)
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add the whole chicken and cover it with water. Simmer until fully cooked (about 1 hour). Remove the chicken, shred it, and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, sauté onions, carrots, and celery until tender. Pour in the chicken broth and return the shredded chicken to the pot. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and melted butter until combined.
  4. Spoon the dumpling mixture over the simmering broth, covering the chicken. Cook uncovered for about 15–20 minutes, until fluffy and cooked through.

Notes

Feel free to use rotisserie chicken for added convenience or swap in your favorite vegetables for even more flavor.
