A traditional meatloaf recipe that is tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, topped with a tangy-sweet glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup milk (or unsweetened dairy-free milk)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper, freshly cracked
- ½ cup onion, minced as finely as possible
- 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 ratio)
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and Worcestershire sauce.
- In another bowl, stir together the breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Mince the onion as finely as possible.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg mixture, breadcrumb mixture, and minced onion. Mix just until combined.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf on a rimmed baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard to prepare the glaze.
- Spread the glaze over the meatloaf and bake for 50-55 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For best results, use 80/20 ground beef for optimal flavor and moisture. Milk hydrates the breadcrumbs and ensures a tender loaf.
