Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups sugar
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- For Icing: ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1½ tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla until soft.
- Add eggs; beat until fluffy.
- Blend in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
- Divide dough, chill at least 1 hour.
- Roll out dough, cut with cookie cutters.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8 min.
- Cool, then decorate with icing and sprinkles.
Notes
Chill dough for easier rolling and cleaner shapes. Store cookies airtight to keep them soft for days. Try adding a hint of almond extract for extra flavor.
