Description

This cheesy Christmas tree bread is warm, buttery, garlicky pull-apart bread filled with gooey mozzarella and brushed with herb garlic butter.

Ingredients

  • 1 (13 oz) can refrigerated pizza dough
  • 67 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • Parchment paper (for lining the baking sheet)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ½ tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • ½ tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely grated or minced
  • Marinara sauce, pizza sauce, and/or pesto for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the refrigerated pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface and cut it into 30 small squares.
  3. Slice the mozzarella cheese sticks into 30 bite-sized pieces.
  4. Place one mozzarella piece in the center of each dough square and form a ball by pulling the dough around the cheese and sealing it.
  5. Arrange the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet in the shape of a Christmas tree.
  6. Whisk together the egg and water, then brush each dough ball lightly with the egg wash.
  7. Bake for 16–18 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  8. While baking, melt the butter and mix in half of the grated Parmesan, parsley, rosemary, basil, and garlic.
  9. Brush the baked bread with the garlic herb butter and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.
  10. Transfer to a serving platter and serve with marinara, pizza sauce, and/or pesto.

Notes

Seal the dough well and use fresh herbs for better flavor. Make ahead by freezing shaped balls and thawing before baking.
