Description
A delectable twist on a classic side dish, this Cheesy Baked Asparagus features perfectly roasted asparagus topped with gooey melted cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) fresh asparagus, trimmed
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning (optional)
- 1 tbsp melted butter (optional, for added richness)
- Red pepper flakes (for garnish, optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven: Heat it to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Prepare the asparagus: Rinse and trim the tough ends. Pat dry to prevent steaming.
- Season: Place the asparagus in the prepared dish. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle the salt, pepper, and garlic powder over it. Toss gently to coat evenly.
- First bake: Bake uncovered for 7–9 minutes, until the asparagus starts to soften but remains crisp.
- Add the cheese: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the asparagus. If using, add the Italian seasoning and drizzle with melted butter.
- Final bake: Return to the oven and bake for another 6–9 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
- Finish & serve: Garnish with red pepper flakes and fresh parsley, if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
For added richness, feel free to use melted butter. If fresh asparagus isn’t available, frozen can be used as long as it is thawed and well-drained.
