Description

Fluffy and gooey homemade cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese icing, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 4-5 cups (520g-650g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 package) instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180mL) water
  • 1/2 cup (120mL) whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, cut into 4 slices
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, very soft
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz (115g) full-fat block cream cheese, room temperature
  • 5 tablespoons (70g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups (195g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk and set aside.
  2. Heat the water, milk, and butter in a medium bowl until warm.
  3. Whisk the egg into the warmed liquid.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients over the flour mixture and mix until a thick dough forms.
  5. Add the remaining flour gradually until the dough comes together.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  7. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  8. Roll the dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter over it.
  9. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on top; roll into a log.
  10. Slice the log into 12 rolls and place in a baking dish.
  11. Let the rolls rise for 45 minutes or until doubled.
  12. Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until smooth for icing.
  14. Spread the icing over warm rolls.

Notes

Serve warm with coffee or milk. Store leftovers in the refrigerator or freeze for later.
