Description

A simple, satisfying BBQ Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich combining smoky barbecue chicken with creamy Havarti cheese, all nestled between crispy French bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 small French baguette or 4 thick slices French bread (about 810 oz total)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 to 1 1/4 cups cooked BBQ chicken, shredded or chopped
  • 46 oz Havarti cheese, sliced
  • Optional: 2–3 thin slices red onion, dill pickle slices, or a handful of baby spinach
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional for finishing: a light drizzle of extra BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Mix the softened butter with the minced garlic and a pinch of salt.
  3. Spread the garlic butter on one side of each bread slice.
  4. Place two unbuttered sides of bread down, layer with half the Havarti, then divide the BBQ chicken.
  5. Add optional onions, pickles, or spinach.
  6. Top with remaining cheese slices and close the sandwiches with the buttered side up.
  7. Cook in the preheated skillet for 3–4 minutes until golden brown, pressing lightly.
  8. Flip the sandwiches and cook the other side 3–4 minutes, covering if needed to melt the cheese.
  9. Remove from heat, let rest for 1 minute, slice, and serve hot.

Notes

Pairs well with sweet potato fries or a crisp slaw. Add pickles on the side for brightness.
